What happens after I donate? charity: water partners with Living Water International Kenya to implement the work on the ground. What happens after a well is built? The local community is engaged in the well building process, carrying out small tasks for free to reduce labor costs. This also encourages community participation and ensures ownership after the well is complete. When the well is built, a water committee is formed. It generally consists of 6-8 people, half of them female. In the case of hospitals, the committee will generally consist of nurses and hospital staff. |

What are the long-term effects of clean water? Wells transform communities. Preventable waterborne diseases are drastically decreased. long walks to muddy rivers and swamps are no longer necessary. Time spent collecting water is reduced, offering women a chance to earn an income and children a chance to get an education. Wells bring people together and offer improved health, a better quality of life, and hope for a better future. |

| Last September, we found a clinic in Kenya without clean water. Mogotio Health Center had 20 nurses, no doctors, and served a surrounding population of 30,000 people. The only water they had to use was as brown as mud. It was pumped from a nearby river, and unfiltered, it flowed through the clinic's taps. | We had to do something. We launched a birthday initiative in the month of September, asking people to give up their birthday gifts and ask for donations instead. 100% would go to give Mogotio clean water. 93 people joined us and $150 was raised. We drilled a well at Mogotio on September 7th, and were able to help two more hospitals and a school with the money raised. | On October 22nd, Dominic Mosa, the supervisor of Mogotio Clinic cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony and turned on the newly installed taps to see clean water flowing for the first time. With the help of more than 700 people, the clinic's new taps now delivered clean, safe water at 4,200 liters per hour. |
